MASONTOWN, W.Va. — A Kingwood man is in custody after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Preston and Monongalia counties in early February.
Richard Brandau, 41, was arrested on Sunday for the incident on February 2nd where he allegedly left the Circle K in Masontown and was followed by a deputy who was aware his license was revoked for DUI.
According to the Preston County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted to stop Brandau, but he sped off toward Reedsville on Route 7 before running a stop sign and turning onto Kingwood Pike. Brandau allegedly reached speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour while traveling on icy roads and crossed the double yellow lines multiple times.
According to court documents, Brandau allegedly crossed into Monongalia County on Greenbag Road, where Monongalia County deputies were later pursued him. Deputies from both departments terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns of him driving into Morgantown city limits.
Brandau is currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bond set at $25,000.
