CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Any future law enforcement career for former Monongah Chief of Police Nathan Lanham will be determined by an administrative law judge.

Lanham stopped Beth Delloma for an expired registration sticker on Aug. 7. The interaction, caught on video, spiraled out of control when Delloma asked for identification and Lanham refused. Lanham pointed his service weapon at Delloma several times and wrestled her to the ground as she attempted to flee the scene for help. She was in jail for 5 days after being charged with fleeing with reckless indifference.

The Professional Law Enforcement Standards Subcommittee voted for decertification during their November meeting, and Chairman Steve Walker said an administrative law judge has yet to set an appeal hearing date.

Joe Shaffer represents Beth Delloma, who he said is still suffering from what happened and has sought treatment for PTSD during an interview on MetroNews “Talkline.”

“The lady is afraid to leave her mother’s home. I’ve never seen someone so traumatized over something,” Shaffer said. “Think about it: a loaded gun to your head on three different occasions while somebody is screaming, they’re going to blow your head off for a dead license tag.”
