CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Clarksburg police officer who assisted in the evacuation after a neighborhood gas explosion is being honored by the department.

Via social media, Clarksburg Police Department Chief Mark Kiddy awarded the Meritorious Service Award for his actions on Kramer Driver after a gas explosion killed one resident, leveled a home and damaged several others.

Sergeant Moore is credited with managing the initial response following the the explosion January 26. Moore helped ensure the scene was secure, that nearby residents were evacuated from their residences and that no further loss of life or damage to property occurred.

During the investigation that followed included Clarksburg Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Clarksburg Fire Department, Harrison County EMS, Clarksburg Public Works, Clarksburg Water Board and Hope Gas.
