BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Former Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny has announced plans to run for the office of mayor in Bridgeport.

Matheny is a life-long Bridgeport resident and has served in law enforcement since the 1980’s for multiple state and local agencies. His experience includes work at the National White Collar Crime Center and Chief of Police in the City of Wheeling.

Matheny is a 1983 graduate of Bridgeport High School, a 1987 graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy via Marshall, and a is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy through the University of Virginia.

Incumbent Mayor Andy Lang is finishing his second term and city statute will not allow him to run for another term.

Incumbent city council member Clayton Rice has also announced plans to run for mayor as well.

Matheny and his wife Melissa are current Bridgeport residents. Matheny has four children Robert Matheny II (Current Harrison County Sheriff), Joe Matheny, Josh Matheny, Dominick Matheny, and five granddaughters.

Election day in the city of Bridgeport is June 10.
