MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. – A Parkersburg man was sentenced to 12 years and 10 months in federal prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm after a carjacking in Monongalia County.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Michael McHenry, 23, was sentenced for leading police on a high-speed chase after carjacking a vehicle at gunpoint in Monongalia County back in March 2023.

According to officiels, McHenry used a 9mm pistol during the crime, which he was prohibited from having firearms because of a grand larceny conviction in Wood County.

Garrett DeBerry, 26, of Morgantown, was McHenry’s co-defendant in the case for his involvement in the carjacking. He pleaded guilty in June 2024 to the unlawful possession of a firearm and will be sentenced in May.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
