MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County GOP Executive Committee is ready to host another public official as part of their weekly update calls during the 2025 legislative session.

Committee Chair Dale Sparks announced that West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack will take part in the free Zoom virtual meeting on Sunday, March 16, where he’ll discuss a variety of issues affecting the Mountain State. The virtual event will start at 8 p.m. on Sunday and will include a chance for Monongalia County residents to speak with one of the highest-ranking state officials in West Virginia.

“We’re having Larry Pack, the state treasurer, join us and talk about the proposed divestment of West Virginia funds from Chinese companies, he’s going to talk about a constitutional amendment before West Virginia voters,” said Sparks. “And (he’ll talk about) setting term limits for statewide offices,” he said.

During the meeting on Sunday, Pack is expected to discuss several topics on operations within the West Virginia Treasury Department that are expected to affect Monongalia County residents. Along with addressing statewide economic issues that range from divestitures in certain foreign markets to constitutional amendments, Pack will also discuss department efforts to distribute unclaimed property funds as well as announce dates related to the application process for the Hope Scholarship. Sparks also expects Pack to address bills passed in the legislature sponsored by Monongalia County legislators.

“He’s going to talk about more than $5 million in unclaimed property funds returned in February,” said Sparks. “And he’s also going to announce his Hope Scholarship applications are now open for the 2025-26 year, so we’re going to have a lot to talk about,” he said.

According to Sparks, the virtual event will include opportunities for county residents to speak with Pack regarding the topics he’ll bring up on Sunday. Much like in previous virtual meetings hosted during the legislative session that included guests like Monongalia County Senator Mike Oliverio and Monongalia County Delegate Joe Statler, Pack will have a chance to discuss issues for the first half hour, with residents signed onto the Zoom call allowed to ask questions during the second half. The questions will be moderated by members of the Monongalia County GOP Executive Committee.

“During the first 30 minutes, we’ll talk with that guest, and they have ideas about what we’re going to talk about,” said Sparks. “And then, the last half of the call is open to questions from the public,” he said.

The Monongalia County GOP Executive Committee virtual meeting is free to attend, and you don’t have to be a registered party member to participate. The weekly meetings are also scheduled to continue until the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session on April 12. With the session past the halfway mark, Sparks encourages Monongalia County residents who wish to discuss local and state issues with State Treasurer Larry Pack to go on the Mon County GOP website to sign up.

“We’re just trying to take things in a little bit of a different direction to more inform the public, the Mon County residents that need to know what’s going on,” said Sparks.
