FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Northbound traffic of Interstate 79 was shut down near the Marion/Harrison county line for several hours Wednesday while crews fight a brush fire.
According to officials with the Marion County 911 Center, crews were alerted to a vehicle fire on I-79 North, near the 130 mile marker south of White Hall at around 4:30 p.m. with the car fire later developing into a brush fire due to the dry conditions. The area was under the Red Flag Warning, which is issued when there’s an increased chance of “fire weather” due to hot, dry and windy conditions.
All of I-79 North was shut down in the area with vehicles reportedly backed up to the Jerry Dove Drive exit in Harrison County.
