MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Executive Director of Communications April Kaull has announced plans to leave West Virginia University to serve as the associate vice president for strategic communications at Carnegie Mellon University. ,

According to a Carnegie Mellon release Kaull will begin her duties there on April 7.

Kaull came to WVU in 2015 as spokesperson for the institution.

“This is a pivotal time for Carnegie Mellon to advance the transformative narrative of our academic and research mission and how it positively impacts the greater good in society. April’s impressive experience, energy, collaborative nature and excellence in all manner of communications will benefit the entire CMU community in more effectively spreading our story of profound impact on a global level,” Tysen Kendig, vice president for university communications and marketing at Carnegie Mellon, said.

At Carnegie Mellon University Kaull will be a key leader setting the tone for communication and developing a comprehensive strategy across the university. Kaull will also manage media relations, research communications, and content strategy.

For 11 years, Kaull directed the news operations for West Virginia Media LLC and a staff of 150 as the vice president of news operations. She also served as the anchor and executive producer for their daily newscast. Kaull also worked as a reporter, producer, anchor, and news director for WOWK-TV and WBOY-TV.

“Throughout my career in West Virginia and most recently back at my collegiate alma mater, I’ve been fortunate to find wonderful mentors and collaborators. This is a special place and I am so thankful for the many colleagues and friends I’ve made along the way,” Kaull said.
