MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown City Clerk’s Office wants to make sure that all potential voters who are eligible to vote in the 2025 Municipal Election are able to do so.

Morgantown City Clerk Christine Wade offered some forwarding advice on WAJR’s Talk of the Town Wednesday, where she encouraged those wishing to register or to check their voter status to log on to the City of Morgantown’s website ahead of the April 7 deadline to be registered. With three council seats, a charter amendment related to the Morgantown City Manager position, and the heavily discussed municipal camping ban ordinance repeal on the ballot, Wade encourages anyone who wants to vote and lives within city limits to check their eligibility.

“Your vote and your voice is deciding the leadership and the policies that can affect everyone that lives here,” said Wade. “So I urge folks to be registered and cast your vote on election day.”

Voter eligibility can be seen through the Morgantown City Clerk’s page on the city website, where a variety of different details will be able to be seen ahead of the April 29 election. On the Election Information section of the website, viewers will be provided with dates and times for early voting (the first day is April 16 at the Historic Train Depot in Hazel Ruby McQuain Park) as well as the voting precincts for those who plan to vote on election day. According to Wade, a list of what will be on the ballot for the 2025 Morgantown Municipal will also be available along with the voter information.

“What will be on the ballot (will be shown), there’s voter information, there’s a link that says if you need to know if I am registered to vote,” said Wade. “That will take you to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website, where you can put in your first name, your last name, and your date of birth, and it’ll tell you where the precinct is.”

If you are not registered to vote and live within Morgantown city limits, there will be opportunities to register on the City of Morgantown’s website. According to Wade, there will be links provided to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website where any Morgantown resident can look up where they are registered to vote, where their polling location is for the 2025 municipal election, and if they are eligible to vote. If you are not registered and are ahead of the April 7th deadline, there will be ways to have a voter registration card sent to you in time for early voting.

“You go to our website, there’s a link that says register to vote or update your voter registration online,” said Wade on how to update voter information. “Click that link, and you can either enter all your information if you have not registered yet, or if you don’t know, you can do all of that online.”

Wade also announced that the Morgantown City Clerk’s Office is also still accepting absentee ballot applications. Any Morgantown resident who will be out of town or who has an “illness which keeps them confined” will be provided a ballot in the weeks ahead of early voting. Ballots will still be required to be returned by mail and postmarked by the date of the election. With less than a week to register to vote ahead of an open registration period scheduled at the Morgantown Farmer’s Market on April 7, the Morgantown City Clerk’s Office encourages anyone eligible to vote to double-check their eligibility.

“We’re still accepting absentee applications,” said Wade. “Use that link to our website, complete that, and you could bring it in to the clerk’s office, you can mail it in, as soon as we get that we’ll verify it to make sure that you’re registered to vote inside the city limits, and then we’ll send out your ballot.”
