MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown City Clerk’s Office will host a special voter registration event ahead of the upcoming municipal election.
As part of the deadline to register to vote that will take place on April 7, Morgantown City Clerk Christine Wade announced that a drive-up voter registration event will take place that Monday at the Morgantown Farmer’s Market Pavilion from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wade, along with city clerk employees, will be on hand to assist residents to check their current voter registration status and to register anyone who wishes to take part in the Morgantown Municipal Election on April 29.
“We have a voter’s registration day under the farmer’s market, and so folks can drive through the farmer’s market, they don’t even have to leave their vehicle, and we will take all of their information,” said Wade.
According to Wade, those who attend the voter registration event at the Morgantown Farmer’s Market on Spruce Street will have a chance to register to vote on the spot if they live within Morgantown city limits. This will allow for anyone that registers that day to vote in the election that will have three seats of Morgantown City Council up for a vote as well as a charter measure related to the residency requirements for the Morgantown City Manager position and a potential repeal of the municipal camping ban. Those who sign up will get their registration cards in less than a half hour as part of an agreement with the Monongalia County Clerk’s Office.
“If they’re not registered, we can register them with a hard copy and take it down to the County Clerk, that way they have that in time before the election,” said Wade.
Once you are registered to vote, you will then be given a Monongalia County voter’s registration card that will list your voting precinct for the 2025 Morgantown Municipal Election. Anyone who is already registered will have a chance to check on the statewide voter database that will be shown on the City of Morgantown’s website. While employees at the Morgantown City Clerk’s Office will be on hand to immediately help with voter information at the Morgantown Farmer’s Market on Monday, the website services will remain up for residents to use if they’re unable to head downtown before 3 p.m.
“If you need to know, ‘Am I registered to vote?,’ there’s a link there that will take you to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website,” said Wade on other ways to check if you’re registered to vote in the Morgantown Municipal Election. “You can put in your first name, your last name, and your date of birth, and it’ll tell you where your precinct is.”
The 2025 Morgantown Municipal Election will have early voting scheduled to take place between April 16 and April 26 at the Historic Train Depot at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. with polls closed on Friday. On election day, there will be over a half dozen polling locations open across Morgantown’s seven wards with polls open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on April 29. With April 7th being the firm deadline to be registered to vote in the election that will determine at least two new council members (Ward Two and Ward Six seats) and discuss two issues that were heavily protested by Morgantown residents over the past two years, Wade encourages residents to check if they are able to vote.
“Our elections directly impact daily life, from public safety to infrastructure to education and economic development,” said Wade. “Your vote and your voice is deciding the leadership and the policies that can affect everyone that lives here.”
