MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The City of Morgantown now officially has a new city manager.

The Morgantown City Council unanimously approved to appoint Jamie Miller as the new Morgantown City Manager, the third for the city over the last five years. Miller follows Paul Brake, who served for a little more than three years, and most recently Kim Hawes, who held the position for about two years.

“I move that Jamie Miller be appointed as city manager and that the mayor (M. Joe Abu-Ghannam) be authorized to execute the employment agreement presented to council,” said Morgantown Deputy Mayor Jenny Selin. “Along with any other documents needed to accomplish the purposes of the employment agreement.”

Miller started in the city of Port Orange, Florida, in the human resources department and advanced to serve as the deputy city manager after serving as a budget analyst and then 4 years as the administrative service director. In 2022, she became the city manager in Paris, Kentucky, where she is credited with moving a solid waste transfer station from an African-American community to a new location outside town. Miller has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stetson University and an M.S. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Central Florida.

Miller will take over for current Interim Morgantown City Manager Damien Davis, who served in the position after Morgantown Assistant City Manager Emily Muzzareli took over for Brake back in 2020 on an interim basis. Miller will complete her 60-day notice before transitioning into the Morgantown City Manager position.

The Morgantown City Council did not discuss the decision ahead of voting unanimously to move forward.
