MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture and Resources is ready to sell plants raised and cared for by university students.

The annual Davis College Store Spring Plant Sale officially kicked off on Thursday, April 17, as part of a three-day-long sales event. Davis College Store Business Manager Joe Woods encourages Morgantown area residents to stop by at the 1201 Evansdale Drive location to check out a variety of options ranging from vegetable plants to flowers that you can give to a member of your family during the Easter holiday.

“It’s on Evansdale Drive, right across the street from the main Ag. Sciences building on the Evansdale campus, and we have our greenhouse filled,” said Woods. “With plants that our students have grown as a part of horticulture classes or independent studies, to the point where we are ready to send them home.”

According to Woods, there will be dozens of a variety of greenhouse-grown plants that will be on sale at the annual Davis College Store Spring Plant Sale. This will include not only the traditional Easter lilies that will be on sale but also herbal-focused plants along with a variety of peppers that can be later canned and stored after they are purchased. This includes several popular favorites that have been purchased by Morgantown area residents over the years.

“We have 25 varieties of herbs available, we have about 10 varieties of tomatoes, and 8 varieties of pepper plants, including the locally desirable Hungarian Hot Wax pepper,” said Woods. “We definitely have those so that you can stuff them and can them.”

All of the plants that will be on sale at the Davis College Store Spring Plant Sale were grown on-site by WVU Davis College of Agriculture and Resources students. Each of the plants grown was raised at the WVU Evansdale Greenhouse just outside of the Davis College through classroom and research settings. The plants are also observed by Davis College educators before being placed on sale, so anyone purchasing will have a chance to buy some of the best plants the school has to offer.

“The proceeds go back into research and education for the students here at the Davis College Store and also into our horticulture club,” said Wood. “So it goes right back into the education here at the Davis College.”

Despite being Easter Weekend, the Davis College Store Spring Plant Sale will be open during normal business hours from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This continues a tradition for the store that has hosted similar spring sales since it officially opened in 2022. With Easter weekend kicking off on Friday, Woods encourages anyone who wants to buy something nice for themselves or a family member to stop on by the Evansdale campus and see what’s available.

“We will be open during our normal hours because we have Easter lilies for sale, and everybody wants those,” said Woods. “So we don’t want people to miss out on the weekend.”

The price of plants during the sale range from $6 to $20.
