CORE, W.Va. — A combination of local fire departments and state agencies responded to a brush fire in rural Monongalia County Friday afternoon that lasted until after dark.

According to officials with the Monongalia County 911 Center, the fire occurred at about 2:39 p.m. near Smoky Run Road, near Core. Officials couldn’t confirm how large the fire became, but did confirm that crews were still on the scene at about 8:45 p.m., putting out hot spots.
