CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Morgantown man has been sentenced to nearly 5 years in federal prison for conspiring to ilegally purchase firearms.

The investigation began at a residence in Morgantown when police responded to a domestic incident involving Todd Houston, 36. Investigators later learned Houston was attempting to sell more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition at a pawn shop. A search of his vehicle also uncovered a pistol investigators determined it had been purchased by someone else for Houston in exchange for heroin.

Houston is prohibited from having firearms because of prior felony convictions that include domestic battery, drug trafficking, robbery, and grand larceny.

Houston will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
