MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A truck driver accused of causing a deadly car crash over Cheat Lake in January will be extradited to West Virginia to face charges.
A California judge served Sukhjinder Singh, 37, with a governor’s warrant Wednesday morning and ordered him into the custody of the State of West Virginia for extradition.
Singh is accused of driving a tractor-trailer that hit Kevin Lataille’s car on Interstate 68 in Monongalia County during a Jan. 19 snowstorm. Lataille, 59, was killed when his car went over the side of a bridge and into the icy waters of Cheat Lake. His car and body were recovered on Jan. 22.
Singh has been in a California jail since he was arrested in March and has refused to waive extradition until now.
Sukhjunder is charged in Monongalia County with negligent homicide, and Lataille’s family has filed a federal civil suit against him.
As of the publication of this article, Sukhjunder does not appear in the West Virginia Division of Corrections system.
