BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Bridgeport Police Department has received an unclaimed property check in the amount of $10,000 from State Treasurer Larry Pack.

The check for $10,812 was the Bridgeport share of the firearm auction held in Charleston on March 27.

The weapons are outdated, unclaimed, or evidence in cases that have been decided.

Bridgeport Police Chief Mark Rogers said the department included 60 firearms in the auction.

“These proceeds will help us invest in critical safety equipment, training resources, and technology upgrades that enhance our ability to serve and protect the community,” Rogers said. “We are grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to reinvest in public safety.”

The March auction raised $132,495 to benefit the 18 participating law enforcement agencies that turned over weapons that were no longer needed. The auction included a total of 624 weapons and 700 pounds of ammunition, making it the largest auction of its kind to date.
