MANNINGTON, W.Va. — A police standoff that took place in Mannington on Wednesday and lasted for several hours resulted in two people being charged with child neglect.
The West Virginia State Police announced that Jason Kellar, 34, of Mannington, and Christina Mackey, 41, of Mannington, have both been charged with child neglect after the residence on Buffalo Street where the standoff took place was found in a “deplorable” condition.
According to court documents, the residence was found with rat feces in the children’s bedrooms and trash throughout the home. Police also noted that the vast majority of the residence was “under construction” and that the children were exposed to jagged nails and missing floorboards.
The home was discovered in that condition on Wednesday, after police responded to a domestic violence situation where Kellar allegedly barricaded himself in the residence with a firearm. The standoff lasted for over six hours before he allegedly fled the scene, he was arrested without incident in Monongah on Friday morning.
CPS removed the children from the home after the standoff.
Both Kellar and Mackey have been charged with four counts of felony child neglect. As of Friday afternoon, Kellar has not been charged with any crimes related to the standoff situation.
