MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –– The Canvassing Board in Morgantown has declared the results from the most recent municipal election and a total of five ballots were added to the total count. Four absentee ballots arrived late and one provisional ballot was counted after the review of the canvassing board.
The revised voter turnout of 14.13 percent is the third-highest in the last 10 municipal elections and the fourth-highest based on the total number of ballots cast.
Mark Downs has been declared as the representative for the Sixth Ward, receiving 1,050 votes. Challenger, Stephanie Hunt received 753 votes.
Jodi Hollingshead and Jenny Selin were each unopposed respectively in the Second and Fourth Wards. Hollingshead received 1,323 votes and Selin received 1,226.
Voters rejected the proposed a charter change that would have allowed the city manager to live outside city limits. The number of “No” votes totaled 1,412 to 429 “yes” votes.
Voters agreed to uphold Article `1157, Camping on Public Property by a 78 vote margin. A total of 986 voters to uphold the ban to 905 voting to repeal the ban.
The 48-hour clock for candidates to request a recount started at about 2 p.m. Monday, May 5.
