STAR CITY, W.Va. — Local businesses in Monongalia County are opening up their doors for families looking to treat their moms with something fun to do for Mother’s Day.
The WOW Factory will be among those businesses that will host activities during Mother’s Day weekend, which will start with a special themed ladies’ night that will begin on Friday starting at 5 p.m. Co-owner Dina Muttillo encourages Morgantown area mothers to stop on by over the next few days, which will include the Bridgerton-themed ladies’ night and will be followed up with a Mother’s Day-themed story painting that will take place on Saturday morning.
“We have an exciting weekend planned for mothers, and it actually starts Friday evening, where we have a special edition of ladies night,” said Muttillo.
The Mother’s Day-themed story painting will take place on Saturday starting at 10 a.m., where moms will have a chance to paint a ceramic figure with their child. The figures will be offered in a variety of designs, with each one being no bigger than 6-8 inches tall. According to Muttillo, the book being read will be appropriate for any child aged two years or older, and anything painted will be warmed with the help of WOW Factory drying ovens.
“Saturday morning, we have a story painting session from 10-11 a.m., and the book that we’ll be reading is What Not to Give Your Mom on Mother’s Day,” said Muttillo. “It’s appropriate for kids, it’s generally $10, we’ll read the book, and then they’ll get to paint a little figurine.”
Both activities that will take place on Friday and Saturday will also host an open tea bar that will offer free tea for mothers taking part in activities with their children. Tea-themed pottery items will be available for children to paint for their moms that will be offered alongside the separate figures offered as part of the story-themed painting period. Sales and specials will also be offered as part of the weekend for anyone who wishes to get their mom something special for Mother’s Day weekend.
“We do have all day Saturday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.,” said Muttillo. “It’s Mother’s Day Tea Weekend with a complimentary tea bar, lots of sales and specials, lots of tea-related pottery products, and a gift for Mom.”
Tickets will be on sale for each activity within hours before starting with mothers with children ages 2-10 encouraged to take part in the story painting that will take place on Saturday. Tickets for the story time painting will start at $10, with separate figures and pottery items varying depending on size and shape. With walk-ins allowed at the door, Muttillo encourages any mom looking to do something with their children on Mother’s Day Weekend to stop on by the WOW Factory and drop in.
“We’ve seen kids as young as two years old and all the way up to ten or so,” said Muttillo. “We’re an open studio, so whoever walks in, they can enjoy this book as they create.”
