FAIRMONT, W.Va – A Fairmont man has been sentenced to serve time in federal prison for selling a fentanyl analog in Marion and Harrison counties.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia announced that Darrel McHoney, 55, will spend nine years and two months in federal prison for selling para-fluorofentanyl, a synthetic variation of fentanyl typically created in a lab to evade regulations and produce stronger effects.

According to officials, a search conducted of McHoney’s home by investigators found more than 100 grams of para-fluorofentanyl, a loaded firearm magazine and drug paraphernalia within the residence.

McHoney will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
