WESTON, W.Va. — One person has been accused of taking a car from a Harrison County car lot and leading police on a pursuit.
On Thursday, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department was notified about the theft of a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer from Black Bear Chrysler Jeep RAM.
Just before 2 p.m., deputies observed the vehicle traveling north on Center Avenue in Weston. When deputies attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Center and East Fourth Avenue, the driver, later identified as Joshua Wayne Merritt, fled.
Merritt continued to flee through the intersection of Center and East Sixth Street while operating the stolen vehicle with reckless disregard, according to police.
Merritt was stopped and arrested at the north end of Center Avenue by deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
Joshua Wayne Merritt has been charged with felony fleeing with reckless indifference and grand larceny and is being held in the Central Regional Jail.
Deputies returned the vehicle to the dealership.
