MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown High Boy’s Basketball program is ready to host the Hope Gas Morgantown Shootout on Saturday, June 21.
The tournament will be played from noon to 6 p.m. and will host a total of 30 games at the Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center. The entry fee is $10 for an all-day pass and children 12 and under get in free.
Morgantown Boy’s Basketball Head Coach Dave Tallman gives tournament details.
“This is our 3rd or 4th year putting the Morgantown Shootout together,” Tallman said. “We’re proud of our sponsor Hope Gas for stepping up and making it a great day for kids from all over the state of West Virginia.”
Boy’s basketball teams from all over the state will be attending to compete.
“They’re coming in from north, south and all over,” Tallman said. “It’s something we’re trying to build and we think it’s gonna be a great event.”
Summer shootouts are a chance for players around the state to get exposure.
“Not only does it give us great competition, but it attracts college coaches, so I think we’re going to have about 10 college programs here. For our guys to be able to get that exposure and have the opportunity to play in front of them is awesome and it’s also awesome for kids all around the state,” Tallman said.
Tallman talks about what it means to him to be able to put on a shootout that involves the whole state.
“You get some of the better players, better programs, better coaches in the state all together under one roof,” Tallman said. “We’re thankful for Mylan Park that they have the five courts so we can do that. It’s a good day to network, it’s good for the comradery and it’s good for the players.”
