CLARKSBURG, W.Va — A Clarksburg police officer has been placed on administrative leave following an incident Friday.

Officer Elijah Helsley is seen in a video hitting the suspect, Aaron Mayfield in the head on the morning of July 18. Police said Mayfield was found laying on the ground sat the intersection of Locust Avenue and North Chestnut Street showing signs of impairment and appeared irate.

Police said officers attempted to detain Mayfield for the dafety of the citizens in the area. Mayfield then locked his arms in front of him while several police officers took him to the ground.

On the ground, Mayfieldcan bee seen resisting while officers attempt to restrain him. During the scuffleone officer can be seen hitting Mayfield in the head repeatedly.

Clarksburg Chief of Police Mark Kiddy said the officer will remain on administrative leave until the investigation is complete and the required action is taken.
