MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown police have arrested a Waynesburg woman in connection with an assault at a downtown church.

July 18, police responded to the Trinity Church on Willey Street and made contact with the victim who had wounds to both legs and was bleeding badly. The victim was receiving first aid from people in the church.

The victim told police Connie Newberry, 53, attacked him with a machete.

Police found the weapon and then located Newberry inside the church with a cut on her right leg.

Newberry was taken into custody and charged with malicious assault and is being held in North Central Regional Jail.
