MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Former Independent U.S. Senator Joe Manchin will release a memoir in September entitles Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense. , what the self-styled maverick from West Virginia calls his “declaration of independence from the extremes on both sides.”
Manchin, 77, served in the Senate since 2010 and announced last year he would not seek re-election, Manchin served as the lone Democrat Senator in a state that carries a Republican super majority. Manchin has branded himself as a “political maverick” and often faced criticism from fellow Democrats for his focus on common sense, not the party line.
In the summer of 2024, Manchin left the Democrats to be a member of the Independent party.
In the book, Manchin talks about how his West Virginia roots have taught him to find dignity in work and to treat people with respect while being socially compassionate. The foreward of the book is penned by fellow Marion County native and NCAA college football hall of fame coach Nick Saban.
Manchin will stop in Morgantown Friday, September 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Diversified Energy Terrace at Milan Puskar Stadium on the campus of West Virginia University. The book will be released September 16.
