MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A 20-year old Maryland man has ordered to state prison for 40 years in connection with a killing Mountain Valley Drive last year.
Arnold Johnson, III, 20, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, shot and killed Rashad Alton in July of 2024.
Alton was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital but died later of his injuries.
At the time of the incident deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department said the two were acquaintances and the shooting was not random.
Monongalia County Prosecutor Gabe Mucciola said Judge Michael Simms sentenced Johnson to the maximum allowable for the offense of second degree murder.
