MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The city of Morgantown will hold their Halloween Spooktacular at the Ruby Amphitheater from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31.
On WAJR’s “Talk of the Town,” Director of Arts and Culture for the city of Morgantown, Vincent Kitch, said more than a dozen groups and organizations will be there passing out treats and information to families.
“From 4 to 6 p.m. we invite families to bring the kids down,” Kitch said. “There will be a number of community organizations set up in the park—they’ll have treats and information for the kids.”
Beginning at 5 p.m., the first of two movie screenings will begin. Residents are asked to not bring props to the second movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is sometimes known for various forms of audience participation that can become a messy distraction.
“We’ll do a couple movie screenings as well,” Kitch said. “At 5 p.m. we’ll show Hocus Pocus for the kids, and at 7 p.m. for the third year in a row we’ll be showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and this is the 50th anniversary of that film.”
The event will include displays from the Westover Bridge all the way to the park, very similar to the layout during Ruby Summer Concert events.
“People can meander through the park, and then we show the movies on the digital movie screen,” Kitch said. “Some people like to sit close to it, and others like to sit up under the roof.”
Vincent said there is still room for an organization, group, or church to reserve space at the event for public outreach.
“We’ve got a couple vacant spaces,” Kitch said. “We have about 12 or 15 different groups that have signed up to do this, but I’m sure if someone wanted to participate, we could find a place for them to set up their 10-foot by 10-foot pop-up.”
Official trick-or-treating in the city of Morgantown is scheduled for Friday, October 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Main Street Morgantown will hold their own public event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 30.
Westover, Bridgeport, and Clarksburg have trick-or-treating scheduled for Thursday, October 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Trick-or-treating in Star City and Granville is planned for Friday, October 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
