MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown man is facing multiple charges in connection with a break-in and sexual assault.
On Saturday, deputies from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Riddle Avenue and made contact with Zakariye Mohamad, 30, who claimed he had been assaulted by people inside the home.
Deputies then spoke with another witness who had a first hand account of a physical altercation between Mohamad and a group of women.
One of the women in the home told deputies she was sleeping on the couch and woke up with Mohamad standing next to her and looking at her. When the victim and four other women confronted Mohamad and told him to leave, he allegedly jumped toward the victim and grabbed her by the throat. At that point the other women intervened.
Mohamad is accused of punching one of the women in the head before she could get away and call police for help. While she was on the phone, the other women were able to forcefully remove Mohamad from the residence.
Mohamad continued to fight and hit one of the women in the head and bit another on the leg.
Outside the home, Mohamad chased one of the women and pulled her to the ground by her hair. The other women were able to free her from Mohamad.
Mohamad has been charged with malicious assault, burglary and attempt to commit a felony and is being held without bail in the North Central Regional Jail.
