WESTOVER, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania man is behind bars after a suspected brutal assault in a hotel over the weekend.
Westover police charged Landin Shaffer, 19, of Buena Vista, Pa., with one count of malicious assault and one count of strangulation after an investigation at the Sonesta Hotel Saturday.
Workers at the front desk called 911 after guests in neighboring rooms reported screaming and the sounds of someone being thrown against the walls in the room.
Police said the female victim came out of the room and collapsed to the floor with Shaffer following behind. In the room, police found blood on both the victim and Shaffer plus a bathroom door with a hole in it.
The victim told police Shaffer bit her on the nose, hit her on the head, pulled her hair and choked her until she lost consciousness.
The victim was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A worker at the hotel told police they saw Shaffer in the hallway with blood stains on his shirt when checking on the reports of a disturbance. During that exchange Shaffer ordered the victim back into the room prompting the clerk to call 911.
Shaffer told police he pushed the victim when she bit his fingers.
During a search of the room police found broken fake nails, a ball of hair near the main entrance, blood stains on sheets and other areas, a large hole in the bathroom door, a hole in a wall, hair in the bathroom, blood on the toilet and a broken cabinet door on the sink island.
Shaffer is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
