FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — The Morgantown man accused in a Pennsylvania hit-and-run case died over the weekend at his home a day before he was to appear for a preliminary hearing.

No details have been released about the death of Stephen Anthony Lemro, 74, who was accused in a fatal hit-and-run in August by Pennsylvania State Police.

Lemro was charged with involuntary manslaughter, careless driving, fleeing, reckless driving, and an accident involving death and was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday at 1:30 p.m. The charges have all been dismissed in light of the death.

Police said Lemro struck and killed Paula Silvis, 70, as she was crossing Morgantown Street near West Church Street in Fairchance. Lemro fled the scene and was captured by troopers after a brief pursuit on Route 857 near Pringle Lane in Georges Township.

Lemro had been free on a $100,000 bond.
