MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Monongalia Metropolitan Planning Organization plans improvements for a problematic intersection that could begin in the next year.
The intersection in question- Point Marion, Stewartstown, Canyon and Farm View roads has been a very busy, confusing, and sometimes unsafe intersection with no crosswalks or other considerations for pedestrians. During peak travel hours the intersection is unable to the number of vehicles and the problem has worsened in recent years.
The options include adding a roundabout to handle the multiple access points, or realign and completely reconstruct the intersection.
Either option would cost up to $4 million and would include pedestrian infrastructure, crosswalks, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and landscaping.
The project will likely be funded with suballocated funds from the Carbon Reduction Program and the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
The plan will still need approval from the West Virginia Division of Highways and the Federal Highway Administration.
Some work could begin in 2026-27.
