AURORA, W.Va. — Officials in Preston County have dismissed students at the Aurora Elementary School due to elevated a gas CO2 levels caused by a natural gas leak.
The leak was reported around 9:30 and a total of 27 people were checked out by EMS workers. Two students have been taken to the hospital.
Preston County officials have have classified the the situation as a “mass casualty incident” and heave requested support from first responders in Maryland.
As of 1:45 p.m. the response included two ambulances from the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad. the Garrett County Emergency Services Lieutenant, Garrett County Hazardous Materials Team, Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, Gorman Volunteer Fire Department, and the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company.
Officials said the Garrett Regional Medical Center is prepared to accept patients.
