MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — One person was hit and injured in downtown Morgantown Tuesday morning.

Deputy Chief of the Morgantown Police Department Chris Ruehmer said an elderly male was hit in the intersection of Pleasant and High Streets around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“It spun him around and he dropped right in the street,” Ruehmer said. ” The truck immediately stopped, the driver jumped out to render aid and it looks the individual suffered a pretty significant injury to his leg.”

The victim was transported to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital with a significant leg injury, according to Ruehmer.

“The initial assessment on scene was it was not a life threatening injury,” Ruehmer said. “But, especially when an elderly person is involved you never know- obviously we are concerned.”

The mishap remains under investigation, but the preliminary findings show the pedestrian entered the street when the truck has the right-of-way and was passing through the intersection.
