MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The latest dose of winter weather should move out of the region by late Thursday afternoon in time for the next weather maker Friday into Saturday.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Bill Modzelewski said the Morgantown area can expect about 1 inch of snow during the day Thursday as temperatures continue to fall. The temperatures will settle into the low 20’s Thursday with a low in the evening of 17 degrees.

“This particular event should be over with here later today and into this evening then it looks like dry weather for the rest of the night,” Modzelewski said.

This storm will drop the most snow in the upper elevations around the Morgantown area, according to Modzelewski .

“Those areas east of the city are looking for higher amounts- 3, 4, even 5 inches on the highest peaks there east of Morgantown,” Modzelewski said.

By the end of the week another warm up will bring the chance for more snow in the area for the weekend. Forecasters are still watching models but are relatively certain it will bring up to another 3 inches of snow.

“We do have a little bit of a warm up into the 30’s Friday and Saturday although we do expect a 1 to 3 inch snowfall,” Modzelewski said.

Modzelewski said we will remain in a cold pattern likely through the end of the month. However, early next week there could be some bitter cold conditions to prepare for.

“Sunday and into next week looks fairly cold especially when we get into the early part of next week,” Modzelewski said. ” We could have highs generally in the 20’s and on Tuesday we could be in the upper teens with wind chills below zero.”
