MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The local Marine Corps League is holding a “Stuff the Truck” event Saturday to support their “Toys for Tots” campaign.

On WAJR’s “Talk of the Town,” Earl Anderson Marine Corps Detachment 342 coordinator Christina Miller said they’ll be collecting new toys at the Ollies Bargain Outlet, the first event for the 2025 holiday season. Miller said all of the toys collected today will go to children in Monongalia County that wouldn’t otherwise receive a gift for Christmas.

“It will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. collecting toys,” Miller said. ” It’s a “Stiff the Truck” event so we try to collect as many as we can and since it’s in Monongalia County the toys will go to Christian Help for distribution.”

The need this appears to be greater than previous years due to the economy and the current sting of the federal government shutdown. Every year year is a little bit different, but this year could especially challenging without help from the public.

“When the economy is bad donations are low and when the economy is good donations are high,” Miller said. ” This year we expect a lot more kids on our list from all of the agencies.”

Three more collection events are planned for the month of November. On November 22 there will be a collection events at the 5-Below in the University Town Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and another at the 5-Below in the Middletown Commons from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The third and final event for the year will be on November 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 5-Below in the Middletown Commons.

“Our drop locations are listed on the website as well as an address where checks can be mailed,” Miller said. “You can also do a donation right on that website for the Morgantown Toys for Tots.”
