PHILIPPI, W.Va. — A Philippi man is behind bars after police allege he assaulted man in a wheelchair at a convenience store.

On Oct. 29, Barbour County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Sheetz in Philippi and learned Jessie Satterfield, 40, was in a verbal altercation with the disabled person he is charged to care for.

Deputies said Satterfield hit the victim on the back with a water bottle and also hit the victim on top of the head with a closed fist.

Satterfield has been charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
