Another council vote and Morgantown fire marshals will have arrest authority

wajr_plugMORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown City Council members unanimously agreed to an ordinance to allow city fire marshals to make arrests on a first reading Tuesday.

Almost immediately after the state Home Rule Board granted council the permission to take up the ordinance it was on the agenda for a first reading.
When approved, the measure would grant city fire marshals limited arrest powers for malicious burning and obstructing a fire marshal.
They would be able to procure warrants and detain suspects.
A second and final reading will be scheduled.
Morgantown fire marshal Captain Ken Tennant is a scheduled guest on Morgantown AM Wednesday.
