Area residents asked to help find Charlie

MORGANTOWN – Folks in the Cheat Lake area are asked to be on the lookout for a Yorkie-Bichon mix that went missing during a day of fun on the lake.

On Saturday afternoon, Amy Wagner and her husband were kayaking near the lake’s headwaters and their 12-year-old Yorkie-Bichon mix was along for the ride. The couple was on the south end of the lake paddling down along the Cheat River when they stopped on the bank to give Charlie a chance to take care of his business.

“He was sitting about four feet from me and John’s kayak started to go back into the water and he turned to pull it up, I turned to watch and when we turned around Charlie was gone,” Wagner said.

Wagner said Charlie is not known to wander far off she did not know what may have prompted Charlie to run. Since then, she and others have been searching the area looking for signs of the little dog.

“We’ve been up there hiking and looking. We’ve approached it by land from out Snake Hill Road. I assuming, because of the nature of the typography, that Charlie is on the trail and headed toward Masontown and Preston County or the other way which doesn’t go very far.”

The Wagner’s have set out Charlie’s bed, food bowl and some items with their scent on them, hoping Charlie would wander back to that area, but so far there has not been any luck.

“We’re just hoping someone picked him up and let us know that he’s safe,” said Wagner.

Charlie is 10 pounds and mostly looks like a Yorkie with light champagne-colored, medium-length hair. He’s ordinarily friendly and will respond to his name.

“We are so grateful for everyone’s help and even if you’re not sure, we’re happy to take the information and see if it’s Charlie. If it’s not then we’ll help whoever’s dog it may be to find its home.”
