Arrest on drug charges made after police chase in Harrison County

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Two individuals are under arrest on drug charges after fleeing authorities over the weekend.

According Jeff McAtee, Chief Deputy with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Larry Defrietas,43, took off with his passenger, Kristin L Gustke, 28, both of Parkersburg, after they provided false I.D.’s to Chief Deputy Steve Johnson during a suspicious vehicle stop along Sycamore Road Friday.

The pursuit ended when the driver, Larry Defrietas, got the blue Jeep Cherokee stuck in a field along U.S. Rt. 19, near Meadowview Apartments. After a short foot chase involving the Patrol Division and the State Natural Resource Police through the field, Defrietas, was taken into custody.

It was discovered that Defrietas had approximately 17 grams of methamphetamine in a pill bottle in his pocket.

After the two were arrested, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department’s Street Crimes and Drug unit requested the Anmoore Police Department’s K9 unit to respond to the scene and a positive alert for drugs on the suspect’s vehicle.

Members of the SCAD Unit then obtained a search warrant, which yielded a total of 57 grams of crystal methamphetamine, seven grams of raw heroin and 15 grams of marijuana. In addition to the drugs, a loaded .357 Taurus handgun was found.

The total street value of the seized narcotics is approximately $12,000.

Both Defiretas and Gustke are charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession with intent to deliver marijuana and 3 counts of conspiracy, all felonies. In addition, Defrietas, is charged with felony fleeing with reckless indifference.

The two were also wanted on criminal charges in Wood County.

The suspects were lodged in the North Central Regional Jail to await arraignment.
