ATV pursuit leads to arrest

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – A speeding ATV in Masontown led to the arrest of a Preston County man over the weekend.

Police observed the ATV traveling east on Veteran’s Memorial Highway at 45-miles-per-hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone with a child on the front of the vehicle. The officer ordered the driver, Joshua Thrasher, 30, to pull into a nearby parking lot and thrasher acknowledged.

However, as the officer made his way to the lot Thrasher fled west on Main Street. Police say Thrasher was weaving in and out of traffic as he attempted to get away from police. The pursuit was stopped quickly because of the child on the front of the ATV.

Multiple witnesses identified Thrasher as the driver of the ATV and told police where he lived on Rohr Road.

Thrasher told police he fled because he was not wearing a helmet and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Thrasher has been charged with fleeing with reckless indifference.
