Breezeline to assist Senior Monongalians with computers, food donation

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Members of Senior Monongalians will receive the gift of two computers and a donation of canned goods for the Senior Food Pantry, according to Executive Director Lisa Martin.

“We are very honored they picked us to donate the computers and food for the pantry and I look forward to working with them in the near future,” Martin said.

The two new 21” Hewlett-Packard All-in-One computers replace the single outdated computer that many in the Center use to connect with family or important services.

“Members of the aging population in Monongalia County want to get back into the work environment,” Martin said. “So, they can use it for resume purposes, to apply for positions or to check out what’s available from Medicaid.”

In addition to offering 100 meals each day, the Senior Food Pantry offers food and other essentials that can be delivered to home-bound seniors when needed.

“They call us and tell the driver they need certain things and we try to get it to them as soon as we can,” Martin said. “The most asked for things are mops, brooms and buckets followed by some food and things like that.”

The donation will also allow the agency to expand food offerings into the weekend. Due to budget cuts the weekend food program had to be limited, according to Martin.

“We are no longer able to give weekend meals to our seniors, so we now have the opportunity to give more food out so they can have meals on the weekend,” Martin said.

Breezeline supports initiatives that promote digital literacy and equity, online safety, a healthy tech-life balance, and technology careers for young people.

The presentation ceremony will at 9 a.m. Friday, December 16 at the Senior Monongalians Center at 5000 Greenbag Road.
