Buckhannon couple charged with child neglect

UPSHUR COUNTY, W.Va. – A couple from Buckhannon have been charged with child neglect after an investigation by the West Virginia State Police.

The investigation began on Jan. 25, when two children ran away from home because they said they were being abused.

During an interview with two children, ages 8 and 9, they told police Jessica and Scott Tenney told them to leave the house, so they did.

Troopers went to the home and spoke with Jessica, who told them the children were in the back of the home 10 minutes ago, and now they were gone. She told police she looked for the children for about 30 minutes before calling 911. Scott Tenney also told the police that he helped look for the children.

Police noted they were looking for the children in the middle of a rainstorm but noted their clothes were dry. Police also determined that one hour and one minute had gone by before Jessica called 911 seeking help.

Both have been charged with two counts of child neglect and are being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
