Business theft leads to reorganization

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – According to the Fairmont Police Department Courtney Painter, 36, allegedly took more than $150,000 from the Rider Pharmacy over an 11 year period, forcing it to go out of business.

The police report says the thefts occurred between 2006 and 2017, but a report from Marion County prosecutor Jeff Freeman says the crimes happened during 2016 and between January and February of 2017.

Painter was able to reach an agreement with the prosecutor to plead guilty to a lesser charge and pay restitution of $1,000. Freeman directed the amount of restitution to equal the insurance deductible amount for the store owners. Freeman also says the $150,000 total cannot be attributed to the actions of Painter.

In a post to customers on social media the owners says CVS will assume the prescriptions as of December 20 and the gift and collectible portion of the business will remain open.
