Capito releases Fourth of July message

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito hopes all West Virginians have safe and happy Fourth of July.

“As we celebrate the 244th anniversary of America’s founding, we reflect on our country’s history. By signing the Declaration of Independence, our founders exhibited courage, bravery, and a firm understanding that freedom should reign over this land. I believe that this spirit is alive and well in all of us as we work together to make an imperfect union more perfect: a county that we love and believe in.

“We are currently in an unprecedented time, where it seems as if our differences are greater than our similarities; that agreements are few and far between. I hope that this Independence Day serves as a reminder to all of our common foundation: that all men are created equal, and our inherent rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That dedication to freedom is what makes America the greatest county in the world, and we must continue our work together to make our country better for all Americans.

“For those of you celebrating, I encourage you to follow our state’s health guidelines and to wear a mask when social distancing is not possible. West Virginia has been incredibly strong in the face of COVID-19, and we must do all we can to protect our at-risk populations. I wish all West Virginians a safe and wonderful Independence Day.”
