‘Celebration of America’ coming July 4

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the “Celebration of America” for Saturday, July 4 at Mylan Park and Triple S Harley-Davidson. The event also includes a baseball game, live music, a movie, and fireworks all free to the public.

At Mylan Park, starting at 1 p.m., a baseball game between Wheeling Park 1 and Morgantown 2 is scheduled, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., there’s a choice between the family friendly movie, “Doolittle,” on the big screen inside the new Monongalia County Extension Service and 4-H Center Pavilion or the Davisson Brothers performance streamed on the Track and Field Complex video board.

“As soon as we heard that several community and business leaders were joining together to coordinate a Fourth of July celebration for the residents of Monongalia County, the Mylan Park Foundation Board of Directors stepped up and committed use of the non-profit’s facilities to host as many of the festivities as we safely could,” said Mylan Park General Manager, Keith Hernstrom. “We have first class facilities, plenty of outdoor space for social distancing, and a dedicated board with a community first attitude; this was the perfect fit for Mylan Park and we were eager to support this event in a big way!”

Attendees may bring their own food and beverages, as well as chairs and blankets. Chairs must have protective coverings as to not damage surfaces. No coolers or popup tents are permitted. Restrooms will be open throughout the park.

“Mylan Park has more than ample parking and has been working closely with MECCA to address traffic issues and make everything an enjoyable event for all,” said Mylan Park Director of Park Facilities and Events, Jason Selznick. “Attendees will be directed to enter the park by Mylan Park Elementary, if attending the ballgame or viewing the concert at the track, or by the Mon County School Bus Garage to view the movie at the County Extension building.”

The Davisson Brothers’ outdoor concert at Triple S from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. will be open to the public. At Triple S, food and beverages will be available for purchase. Lawn chairs and coolers are permitted.

Coolers and pop up tents are not permitted and Triple S will not be open during the concert, however they have made arrangements for porta potties to be on site for use as needed.

“When Steve Solomon and Cliff Sutherland opened Triple S Harley-Davidson 18 years ago, they not only had a vision to be a destination for motorcycle enthusiasts, but also a firm commitment to give back to our community,” said Triple S General Manager, Jennifer Sutherland. “Following the unprecedented situation caused by COVID this year, it is more important than ever to fulfill that obligation and we couldn’t think of a better way to do it than by celebrating America’s birthday with local favorites The Davisson Brothers Band.”

Patriotic fireworks are planned at 9:45 p.m. on Anker Fields at Mylan Park. The show can be viewed from the seating areas or parking spaces at both event locations. All are welcome to park at either event location, or other secondary locations, to watch the fireworks.

Also, West Virginia Radio’s WKKW will live stream first the concert and then the fireworks at WKKWFM.com.

For the safety of attendees, Mylan Park and Triple S ask that there be no more than 10 people to a family congregating in less than six feet distances. Self-responsibility and personal protective equipment, such as masks and sanitizing solution, are highly encouraged.

To support the community and those impacted by the shutdown, both event locations will host donation stations for Pantry Plus More, a local food pantry committed to ending hunger in Monongalia County. Donations must be monetary no food donations will be accommodated at any of the event locations. Should guests wish to give back via a credit card, they may visit PantryPlusMore.org.
