County Commission appoints McNulty to county development authority

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The General Manager of Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) will join the Monongalia County Development Authority.

The Monongalia County Commission has appointed Mike McNulty to join the Monongalia County Development Authority. Commissioner Sean Sikora said the decision was made so people who are familiar with local utilities could be involved in the planning of future county projects.

“It’s a good addition to the Development Authority,” said Sikora. “It allows Mike to work more closely with all of the developments in the community,” he said.

McNulty, has been the General Manager of MUB since the retirement of longtime General Manager Tim Ball in January 2021. He is also the president of the West Virginia Rural Water Association and served in Logan County and Putnam County before he took the job in Morgantown. The experience of McNulty, was highly endorsed by Commission.

“It’s a natural fit,” said Monongalia County Commissioner Jeff Arnett. “Development doesn’t happen without MUB and having them in the inner workings is certainly a positive and a good step forward,” he said.

In other business, the county commission approved the county’s general liability and workers’ compensation insurance rates for county employees. The rates were based on a proposal from the West Virginia Communities Risk Pool and will take effect for the 2023 fiscal year.

“So the annual premium for Fiscal Year 2023, for the liability insurance, is $533,887,” said Monongalia County Commission Administrator Rennetta McClure. “And the workers’ comp insurance is $196,514,” she said.

The new rates are a slight change from the insurance rates for fiscal year 2022. According to McClure, there is a slight reduction in rates for liability insurance with increases in workers’ compensation rates.

“The liability insurance is about ten thousand dollars less than last year,” she said. “And the workers’ comp is a little bit more, $3,012, and that’s due to, in my opinion, it will be due to raises that you (Commission) gave last year,” she said.
