County Democratic conventions go virtual in 2020

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Democrats in West Virginia Democrats will hold virtual county conventions this year.

Executive Committee member Bill Case says Democrats in Monongalia County must preregister at mondems.org by May 12 at 5 p.m. to participate or run for a spot as a delegate to the state convention.

“Our state party has asked us to hold virtual conventions,” Case said,”We’re holding those between now and the middle of May.”

There will also be 68 delegates selected from Mon County to participate in the state convention.

“The delegates to the state convention are allocated to counties based on the number of Democratic votes in the previous election,” Case said,”Monongalia County has up to 68 delegates to be selected.”

By party rules, 34 female and 34 male delegates will be selected.

Case encourages people to participate in the convention and have their voice heard.

“Participate in our county convention,” Case said,”You get a chance to help shape what our party stands for and who we’re going to support in the elections in November.”
