DNR releases names of Cheat Lake boating accident victims

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Investigators with the Division of Natural Resources have completed their interviews with the victims of a Memorial Day boating accident in Monongalia County.

A dozen people were injured, some critically, in that Cheat Lake accident.

Thursday, the DNR released the names of the victims. They include:

Jacob Alexander, Reid Bailey, Rachel Coyle, Carley Dellasala, Michael Gaudino, Morgan Gerdon, Tyler Geyer, Bret Grady, Macy Robles, Brandon Solomon, Hannah Spangler, Carly Weinstien

According to a spokerspeson for WVU Healthcare, Alexander is in fair condition.

At least 7 of the patients were treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital.  No other names are listed in the hospital directory.

Mon General Hospital, where some patients were reportedly taken the night of the accident, does not release patient information.

All 12 were on a 23-foot Malibu speed boat that hit the shore near Warm Hollow road which is not far from Cheat Lake’s Sunset Beach Marina.

At the request of the Monongalia County Prosecutor’s Office, the Division of Natural Resources had not released those names earlier. The information was held until statements could be obtained.

There’s no indication what caused the wreck or if charges will be filed.
