Driver enters plea in deadly hit-and-run

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Morgantown woman who pleaded guilty to charges in a deadly hit and run will be sentenced in August.

Heather McIntyre had been charged with felony hit-and-run causing death. Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of negligent homicide.

James Maloney, 32, died after being struck while walking along Monongahela Boulevard around 1 a.m. on May 17, 2014.

Star City investigators seized the SUV McIntyre was driving a few days after the incident.

McIntyre was originally charged under Erin’s Law.

Erin’s Law is named for Erin Keener. The Fairmont woman was killed in a 2005 hit-and-run accident. The law, passed five years after her death, increased the penalty for anyone convicted of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
