UPDATED: Fire reported at Bridgeport High School

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – A fire in the Bridgeport High School kitchen was quickly contained Thursday morning.

Bridgeport fire chief Phil Hart says firefighters were dispatched at 9 a.m.

“We got there and there is some heavy smoke showing from the back of the building and all the students had been evacuated,” Hart said.

Hart says the cause was traced back to an electrical panel in the kitchen area.

“Some school service personnel on the scene, they had disconnected the power and put the fire out with two extinguishers just as we arrived,” said Hart.

Students were dismissed at 10:20 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

There is no damage estimate available.
